I was on my way back from Edmundston in the YJ today (that's another story) and thought I'd scout out the Squaw cap area west of Campbellton to see if I could find the trail to the top of the mountain. I found a challenging washed out trail through the woods that eventually led to a single lane road to the top. The single lane road is steep at times and is covered with crushed stone. Its a bit challenging at times but is hardly a trail, its more a stock trail. The view from the top is unbelievable, 1588 ft elevation. I'm going to return this weekend with the skies are clearer. If we ever do organize a Jeep run here in the Campbellton area we could include a trip up Squaw Cap.

Yesterday I went back up Sqaw Cap with the Libby. What a view from up there. I tried to get a good pic but I had the afternoon sun in my eyes. This would be a gret place to watch a sunset from. The trail isn't challenging at all fellows, its stock trail that requires 4WD only occasionally on some steep rocky grades but it is an interesting ride through the woods. On the way out I took a wrong turn and wound up lost for about ten kms. Eventually we came out on the Upsaquitch River. From there we decided to explore the roads along the Restigouche River. This place is going to be beautiful in the fall. I wouldn't recomend coming all the way to Campbellton to drive to the top of Squaw Cap but if you're ever in the area it would be a good idea for a detour. Say, opposite Squaw Cap is Slate Mountain. That would be a challenging trail to explore. I checked it out yesterday and found it too rough for the Libby.

Charles & Cynthia were also in the Campbellton area yesterday afternoon. I took Charles up to Squaw Cap and along the north shore of the Restigouche River, great scenery.
