Yesterday it was rather warm & sunny here in Dalhousie so I decided to try to put my soft top on my ride. I've heard its difficult to do on a YJ compared to a TJ and believe me it is . But with my son's help we were able to get it on even though I'm missing some hardware from the corners. Remember I'm new to Jeeping so I'd like to know what's the advantage of having a soft top? It can't be because you can flip the top down when you want because on a YJ its so difficult to put up. I'm now considering a bikini top.

Never owned a TJ but the top on my YJ was only a 5 minute job to put up or down.
Advantages would be that one person can easily put it up or down vs a couple guys with the hard top. So if you get caught in the rain with people who don't want to get wet (ie: the wife) you can put it up, where as the hard top would be sitting in the yard. you can take the windows out and leave the top up for a little shade on the sunny days.
Definately a fun experience to have one blow off at 100 kmph on the highway...wait until you expience that!!

Hey there Dart; We'll have to get together sometime and you can show me how a soft top is put up & down quickly. I'm still missing hardware and the seal about the doors is poor and the rear of the top is flapping in the wind. I checked with the dealership and confirmed that they wanted far too much for the missing hardware. I should be able to fab them up for myself. On my way to a trail run today the patch on the roof peeled off and the front rail that the top clips onto worked itself loose. Luckily the whole top didn't peel off too Tomorrow I'll have to decide if I'll leave the top on or put the hard top back on.

Remember this time of year the soft top goes on harder because it is cold out. The warmer it is the easier the top is to put up and down.
It should pretty much just fold up and down with the frame of the top, the fastendown with the straps so it doesn't catch in the wind. I always found it easier to break down the spreader bars over the rear side windows the unhook the top from the channel over the winshield then fold it all back.
The seal was alway bad around my doors as well byt remmeber it is an older top.
