I've read all the discussions about an ATV operator that happened to cross a ditch or stream with his ATV and has gotten into hot water over it (Please excuse the pun). This has me wondering about the rules. Are there different rules for ATV & offroad truck operators?
It's always been my understanding that I wasn't to cross any body of water with my offroad truck where the axle was submerged. That depth varies on the tire size you have.
Myself I may have crossed or attempted to cross a few deep puddles. I do take issue with people was repeatedly cross a stream or river just to show off their snorkel setup.
So what do you think defines a ditch or a stream? to me they're the same except one may have fish in it.

i can't remember the exact wording but you can't drive on the beach, river bed or in the rivers/lakes. I know one person that had to move his truck from the side of the river. They could have fined him for parking it next to the river.
driving on the banks of the river will get you into just as much trouble.
I had a friend that was a ranger and he told me that the problem wasn't with a couple of trucks crossing but when you've got 50 trucks going accross and then there are always the ones that want to play submarine. The law has to be made to cover everyone.
I love to play in the water but I go in the spring and play in the pits where I know I won't get charged.

You aren't allowed to drive any motorized vehicle within so many feet of a body of water like a river, lake or ocean but I don't know what the distance is. I'll have to see if I can find out from the DNR. I've seen kids at the Charlo Falls drive their Zuki up the river to the falls to go swimming . If the DNR caught them they would have been hung out to dry.
