Actually this isn't a question, more of an informative posting. Recently I had the front shock struts replaced on my Liberty. While doing the work the mechanics discovered my upper ball joints were shot too. No surprised considering the pounding the front end has been taking with the bad shocks. The Liberty has an IFS suspension up front which consists of an upper & lower control arm on each side and of course Mopar has designed the ball joints to be non-replaceable. The entire control arm has to be replaced. Luckily I have an "extended service contract" so the whole job didn't cost me anything. I never noticed a problem with my front end to tell me that the upper ball joints were shot but let me tell you now the steering is real real tight, no slop or play. The next time the ball joints fail I'm going to have to get a pair of Jeepin by Al control arms for Libby's. They have replaceable ball joints.
