I'm a bit embarrassed to ask this, it will show how much of a newbie I really am. I've read about "high pinion" axles. Does that mean high gear ratios?

the place where the pinion gear comes out on a hi pinion is closer to the engine and a low pinion closer to the ground and they say that a dana30 hi pinion is as strong as a dana44 low pinion that you find in cheby half ton truck

I had one of those "Ah ha" moments the other day when I realized the difference between axles and the true meaning of "high pinion". It doesn't have to do with axles ratios it has to do with the position of the pinion shaft. I'll remember this lesson the next time I shop for axles.
