Ever since I bought my Liberty I was curious as to what makes a vehicle an SUV because that's what my insurance company calls it. According to Wikpedia.org (the complete source of all knowledge ;D) the definition of an SUV is as follows;
A sport utility vehicle (SUV) is a generic marketing description for a rugged automotive vehicle similar to a station wagon but built on a light-truck chassis.[1] Usually equipped with four-wheel drive for on or off road ability, some SUVs include the towing capacity of a pickup truck with the passenger-carrying space of a minivan. SUVs are considered light trucks and often share the same platforms of pickups and thus are regulated less stringently than passenger cars under two major laws in the U.S
So I guess this makes Liberty's, Comander's & Cherokee's SUV's. The SWB Jeeps like the CJ/YJ/TJ/JK's can't be considered SUV's could they? Maybe if they're four door JK's.

TJ's and all versions of the Jeep where changed to SUV status several years ago by the insurance companies in order to get more money, before that they were considered trucks and the lower insurance rate that goes with it.
Their excuse was Jeeps had a rear seat and trucks do not have rear seats so they were moved into a more expensive category.
Luckily I was able to change the status of my Jeep to truck after removing the rear sear and all hardware associated with it. Manitoba has changed the rules preventing this because they lost around $600.00 per year for every new Jeep that was converted to truck status.
Other provinces have similar rules so it is a good thing to look into if you have removed your rear seat, better to have the money in your pocket than theirs.
