Gee am I the only one who has "Awww Crap!" moments? Last night after replacing a burnt out headlight on the Liberty I went to clean off the windshield and discovered a long crack running about two inches from the bottom of the windshield across the bottom of the windshield. Awww Crap, time to get a new one Actually I think I'll wait until the spring to bother replacing it, maybe longer depending on the price.

Update;
I discovered a stone chip in the middle of the crack that is in my windshield. I remember getting a couple of them filled this past summer but I guess the repair to this one didn't take.
Yesterday I checked with my local glass shop and got a price of $349 for a new windshield. I may run it through my insurance but I'll have to pay the first $200. I'll probably wait until spring to get it done.

Yup, that qualifies as an official "Awww Crap" moment. Maybe we should get T-shirts printed up.... This past weekend I sort of had two separate "Awww Crap" moments First; at one point on a snow run I needed my winch. But my dependable Warn winch wouldn't cooperate. The wire rope was bound up and wouldn't unspool I knew I should have properly respooled it since the last time I used it. Second; I realized that my "Check Engine" indicator was on on the dash. It's a 1995 vehicle so there's no error code but the voltmeter on the dash was reading 9 volts....not good A look under the hood confirmed that my battery lead on my alternator had burned off. There wasn't any way to easily repair it on the trail. The only solution was to charge my battery off of another Jeep and drive for five kms or so until the battery was completely drained, stop and charge it again. I finally managed to get back to Beresford without my headlights, defroster/heat or wipers. This week I'll pull the alternator off and take it in for repair at Bathurst Alternator & Repair. Another lesson has been learned. I need to check under the hood closely before leaving the driveway and not simply putting the key in and driving.

This sort of qualifies as an "Awww Crap" moment. My Liberty has few kms left on it's 7 year/115,000 km powertrain warranty so I take it to the dealership for the routine maintenance to keep the warranty valid (I may need it some day). Typically these checkpoints are an oil & filter change and cost me about $75 but this time they discovered a couple of other routine maintenance's are due. They include a transmission drain, flush & new fluid & filters plus new plugs. Like a dummy I agree. Four hours later I get my Liberty back with new fluids from front to back (except for the rad), new plugs and new air, oil & transmission filters. Oh, and a bill for $640 this is where I say Awww Crap... Considering the punishment that I put my transmission through hauling my YJ about I suppose it's worth $230 to drain, flush and refill. As soon as the powertrain warranty expires I'm going to be doing my own maintenance.

crap moment #1: over 10 years ago I was at Martin Head with my new to me suzuki samurai....stock and in really good shape.
We got to this water crossing and I was right behind another stock zuke...I thought well he;s getting through so I can make it too.....so in I go and then he gets stuck...at this time we are both hood deep in salt water. I never took my foor off the gas and run into him which sent him forward and out...then I get stuck in his spot.
So I'm on the CB yelling for help and they told me no problem but we tie the strap and bring it to shore. So I looked at the passenger or as I called him "strap b@#$@" I reached over, opened the door and pushed him out. He was over his waist in the very cold water.
One little tug and out I went. I drove the zuke for about 4 more years...sold it to my dad, which sold it to another guy and years later bought it again...there was nothing left...the salt really did a job on the zuke.
I've had many crap moments and look forward to more moments....
